As noted before, our lawn is patchy and thinning. As a result, instead of fertilizer, I am thinking of giving it Propecia.

LOL! Why not try aeration? As the soil absorbs more nutrients, it will improve further, leading to luscious greens in-the-making! =) What I did a few years ago was a total garden renovation. I personally replaced everything, including the grass and plants. I believe that your garden has hope regarding these thinning issues.
