There was a story in the news about Mazda recalling 65,000 cars because of spiders. I don’t know much about cars, but that seemed a little odd to me.
“My car is having trouble shifting lately.”
“Have you checked the engine for ferrets?”
Usually car problems relate to things like the fan belt or coolant levels. I’ve never had a mechanic say there might be another life form in the drive shaft. “At Pete’s Auto Place our technicians are ASE certified and experts at trapping and killing small animals.”
It will be interesting to see how Mazda handles this in their advertising. “And our cars are now spider-free!” Maybe they will try to spin it into something more positive. “In our 50 year history, Mazda cars have never had a problem with howler monkeys.” Maybe they will even make the whole episode seem like it was intentional. “At Mazda, we care about you and your family. That is why our cars are designed to lure in and then murder a wide variety of insects.”
